Ahh, this was the hey day of the New Beetle.
I post this so we do not forget the good ol' days and part of the history of our beloved cars.

AMAZING!
And here we are, 9 years (and who knows how many window actuator and brake light switches) later...STILL LOVING THIS CAR!
Luke, thanks for the blast from the past. Little Green Apple is a '99 (built in June, delivered to Beth in July). Almost 130,000 miles, a repaint by VW to fix fading (I think it's happening again :( ), a catalytic convertor, AC pump and lots of good times later, she rumbles on.
We found Randy's shop in Brea, joined the club later that first year.
LGA's younger sister Candy has almost 30K and gets a lot more use now in Beth's commute.
These cars have brought some challenges, but lots of friends and joy.
Nice to have you two back.
Yes, there are a few '99s still alive and well including BugNBlk. I purchased mine in Oct '98. If you recall, VW offered no sunroof and no turbo in early '99. Later '99s had these options available. In fact, there was one '98 that had just arrived the day before even though there were three '99 on the lot when I bought mine. VW has a strange way of doing things sometimes.
I just turned 120K, passed my second smog test (or third?). I did need to replace the MAF to get the SEL light out for the test, but other than that my baby is running great. Earl and I (and others) just finished a nearly 7K trip this summer in our old buggies.
My silver 'vert only has 17K --- with no mods --- yet!

Thanks for the reminder, great article too. This blast from the past really reminds me of why I love "BUGS". Thanks for the post. Darlene
