It could still be the gas cap. I have an aftermarket locking gas cap on my GMC. If it is not put on just right, I get the code for slow leak evaporative emission system when the gauge hits between 3/4 and 1/2 of a tank following a fill up. I keep a code reader that I purchased in the vehicle just to reset the CEL.
