Here's an article link (and an excerpt) below about the New Beetle: its title "Hot, Then Not".

I don't like to hear such things: "... backgound scenery....!! Yikes!!

Volkswagen New Beetle
The German automaker beat the retro drum harder than anyone with the New Beetle, and for pure nostalgia it sold well until everyone who loved "Herbie" had one. After that, the domed interior and storage limitations inherent in the shape kept the New Beetle an interesting piece of background scenery.

You're taking it as a negative, but look at the positive side. That article was referring to cars that were once "in" and "cool to own" by the masses. Cars on that list are generally referring to something that evvvverrrryone had to have, but are now considered passe' . Which means that those shallow minded people will be trading them in for the next big thing, leaving them for the true enthusiasts like us, and also new enthusiasts who buy them for their merit, not their trendiness.

I read the article, and find it interesting that the Mini is still on the hot list. One of the reasons that they cite for the NB not being hot is "the domed interior and storage limitations inherent in the shape". I've been in a Mini - it sounds like the writers of that article didn't get their information firsthand... what could be smaller than a Mini???
Anyway, I agree with Calicrewzin. We want our NBs to be special & unique, and by not being on the "hot" list (for what it's worth) will ensure their continued uniqueness....... Who wants to be like everyone else??? Not me!
