Yep, my pretty Beetle was keyed rather badly on the driver's side door. Is there any way to fix this at home? Or is this a professional's job only? It looks horrible and I feel so bad for my poor car.

I would love to find the people that do this sort of thing and ... Well I had better not say!
Depending on how deep it is, you might need to seek some professional help. Most reputable body shops will give you the price up front before they do anything.... Good luck!
