Hi All,

I am curious if anyone out there has had a problem with the MP3 Jack in their New Beetle. I have a 2006 Convertible. Mine seems to have become loose inside and all of the adapters I buy don't fit snug inside of the jack...it slips out very easily. Plus I have a lot of static due to this problem as well.

My question is, can you replace the jack, or can the exsisting one be repaired? Do I need to take it to a VW Dealership or can I go to a stereo installation shop to have it repaired? Living here in Prescott, AZ, the closest VW dealership would be 90 minutes away in Phoenix and I hate to have to drive that distance and leave it for a day or two.

Thanks in advance for your suggestion.

Cindy:

Good to hear from you. Hope all is going well in your part of the world.

I have older Beetle models without the MP3 jack, but I can't image that a local stereo shop couldn't replace the entire jack or repair what you have already. If I understand the set up correctly, the part under the dash is only a jack with a set of wires to the head unit (strereo) in the dash.

There is likely a nut on the inside of the jack that secures the assembly. If the fix is simple, the nut may just need tightening. Getting to it may be the challenging task.

Perhaps, others with newer Beetle models have some additional advice on the matter.

Hi Luke,

Wow, fast reply, thank you! Great to hear from you too. I miss all of you guys.

I am doing well here in Prescott, AZ. It is beautiful here, but I do miss So. Cal. It is truly my home, but I am now an official Prescottonian now that I have been here one year. I do miss attending the So. Cal. NB events. It seems as if a lot of new members have joined, which I am happy to hear about.

Thank you for your suggestion on fixing my MP3 Jack. I am going to contact a local stereo installation store here and hopefully there will be a place that will be able to fix it. Prescott is a small town, so they may not have anyone here with quite the qualifications of somebody in a bigger city, but I hate to have to make a drive down to Phoenix.

Thanks again!

Cindy

Hiya Cindy,

I agree with Luke. Usually those jacks are just held in place with a washer and nut. Yours might have just come loose and it should not be a very big deal to fix. Let us know how you make out, and don't be a stranger!

Hi Frank,

Great to hear from you and thank you for your feedback. Monday I will call around to some local stereo installation companies and see what they have to say. I'll let you know what happens.

Hey, if you guys ever plan a long cruise out to Arizona, please let me know. I would love to join you guys out here. A Laughlin cruise would be great too, just like the one GP got going a few years back. I'll keep checking back and seeing what you have on the calendar. Would love to join you guys again someday.

Take care and thanks again!
