[This is another good Roswell story - from the Topica site -
transfered by Luke]

Today I was sitting in my office at home and was looking through the
window at Pete my black 2001 TDI and decided again that the New Beetle
was by far the most beautiful modern car on the road and I wouldn't
even
trade it for a Ferrari, Pete is a family member for life.
Then I thought back to 1998 when it all started and how it changed my
life when I attended the first Roswell meeting in 2000 when I fell in
love with the owner of a yellow TDI and married her the same year and
emigrated to the US.
So I got curious if the NewBug community of 1999 when I was very
active
with that group was still around and guess what, YOU GUYS ARE!
Well, I dont see Fred Kern anymore but almost everybody else is still
here AND there will be a 10th anniversary Roswell, boy I regret
loosing
touch with this group.
Lots of things have changed in my life the last couple of years and
most
of them for the better, of course I still drive a New Beetle and so
does
my wife, I live in Colorado now in the Rocky Mountains in Nederland
and
have a goverment job which means lots of time off so gang read my
lips,
I AM GOING TO ROSWELL THIS YEAR!
Oh boy, I'm so exciting, the show that changed my life so dramatically
will have it's 10th anniversary and I will be able to attend it.
Now I will have to face the difficult decision which of the two New
Beetles will have the privilege to attend the show.

Well, I guess I better dig in the caravan stuff to see if I can
hook up
to one and make hotel reservations, would be nice to have the same
hotel
as in 2000 but my old brain cannot remeber which one that was.

Pugsley and I are planning the trip in Rubee if we can get any interest in the PNW group and perhaps alone if we must :-(

Beth and I will be coming and joining the SoCal carabug.

We are tempted to bring Green Apple too, since she was one of the originals, but at 160K miles I don't know...she'd be great for the luggage!

Anyway, can't wait to see you all.

Beth and Lee:

It was great seeing you two at the last SoCal Cruise and even better to hear that you will be making the trek to Roswell this summer.

It would be extra nice if you could arrange to bring both NBs since both have been to Roswell events in the past.

Candy is good to go - LGA will need a starter before she can go. Amazing - only 157,000 miles and her starter goes. I'm not going to brag on all the original parts she still has - that would be courting disaster.

Only 157,000 miles on a starter? What is the world coming to? Better trade it for a GM car that will get 60K on a starter consistently :-)

Oh I can not wait for Roswell, poor Fiona got another booboo, she scraped against a curb because I cut the turn short and I do the same turn EVERY DAY, I was quite sad when I saw what the curb had done to her :(, I am hoping when I get her detailed before the trip they can buff most of it out *crossing fingers*

Well, at least it is better than what Chrysler is doing... Here's the latest news:

Report: “New” Chrysler will be off the hook for any defective vehicles made before April 30

Chrysler’s bankruptcy was supposed to be quick and surgical, but the automaker’s Chapter 11 filing is proving to be anything but to the current owners of Chrysler vehicles. The Michigan automaker has already bounced a number of lemon law settlement checks and now comes word that the company will wash its hands of any major vehicle defects through its bankruptcy filing.

When the ‘new’ Chrysler emerges from bankruptcy it will still honor all normal warranty claims, but will be legally clear of any major defects, even if they are recall-related. “You have the “new” Chrysler agreeing to be responsible for all the warranty claims and if a wheel falls off and it’s under warranty then they’ll fix it,” Liability lawyer Larry Coben told ABC News. “But if the wheel falls off and the car rolls over and you’re catastrophically injured, then they have no responsibility.”

Under the current terms of the Chrysler bankruptcy, consumers injured by a defective Chrysler vehicle produced before the company’s bankruptcy filing won’t even be allowed, by law, to sue the automaker.

However, a number of consumer groups, such as Public Citizen, Center for Auto Safety, Consumer Action, Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates, are speaking out against Chrysler’s bankruptcy. A congressional hearing to discuss the matter has been set for this week, but the bankruptcy court is expected to push through Chrysler’s case as soon as next week.

In addition to those who have been injured by a Chrysler vehicle, those who own a Chrysler vehicle will likely be hurt by the courts ruling. With Chrysler now taking no responsibility for vehicles built before April 30th, Chrysler’s resale values are expected to plummet even further.

That IS depressing. A shame too, I like the Charger and Challenger too but Chrysler resale is so bad, would never buy either...

Well, LGA is a battle-tested vet - one of the first Socal NBs. She'll never be traded, but her paint is fading again, though she's running really well. Maybe I'll just paint her all isotope.

Got the starter in today, and fresh oil. She is coming to Roswell again, with little sister Candy.

I will say there are some good GMs hanging around. LGA's stablemate is an '02 Vette with 97,000 solid miles behind it. Like LGA, bought new, but with fewer issues. Also, the only ticket I have gotten in either car was in - the Beetle. Not covered under warranty.

See you there!!

That is great! You got her ready to go too! I was hoping my wife and I could both bring cars to Roswell but doesn't appear to be in the cards. And IMHO Isotope was one of those WOW colors VW put out! My wife had an isotope NB and she just loved it :-)
