Volkswagen Tiguan came out at the top of the list in a category that gave me fits. The redesigned Subaru Forester is a wonderful vehicle in so many ways, but the Tiguan captured the top prize thanks to its very upscale interior. The Tiguan also has a high fun-to-drive factor. While prices can get rather lofty with options, the Tiguan (a contraction of tiger and iguana) also comes with free scheduled maintenance for 3 years, or 36,000 miles.
