On my wife's NBC (2005) when retracting the top we always have to remove rear headrests... Is that the way they all are? Or is ours in need of adjustment? Thanks!

I drive a 2003 'vert & have never had to remove the rear headrest to drop the top.
I think I would definitely take it to the dealership & inquire about it, doesn't seem correct to me, that would really be a hassle everytime. Good luck with it & be sure to let us know the outcome. Sweet ride btw, I checked out your photos on your other comment :)
The rear headrests are part of the automatic rollover system. I have never removed them to lower the top. Maybe the system needs to be checked, to see if it is working correctly.

I had a 2004 Convertible and NEVER had to do that. Something is not right!
Glenn:
What hits on the headrests, the headliner?
I have a '03 'vert and have no such problem either.
My 'vert problem: The only problem I've had with the (first year) 'vert is the 'short drop' of the windows as the door handle is pulled. Since the windows only drop about half the distanace when the regulators are malfunctioning, the top edge of the window rubs on the canvas and wears out the edge (there is a special kit of parts to fix the top - I had this done - see below).
On the 2005 and later convertibles the windows drop with the FOB (what does that mean anyway?) as the car is unlocked.
I had new regulators iinstalled under warranty many years ago, but the passanger door is back to its old tricks. Unfortunately, the warranty is no longer in effect. The parts they used to 'fix' the problem at that time
are no longer available.
This week VWoA offered to (after many phone calls) pick up 75% of the $1000+ replacement of the regulators AND the electronics modules that runs the short drop. I have yet to take my bug to the dealer, but the new parts will make the 2003 work like the 2005+. It seems the old parts cannot be inter-changed with the newer ones - all the window system components must be replaced.
Anyway, I wonder if any of you have had this problem.

To clarify. By removing headrests i mean popping off the leather rests. The aluminum below does NOT hit anything. I am not sure what is hitting but must be the headliner. The vert is going in Monday for a different problem. Will ask them at that time IF I remember... It is hell to get old and forgetful LOL
