As I alluded in another post, here is the current problem:

Our convertible hatch will NO longer open. With interior switch or fob. As you might guess my wife is less than blessed, she was at the store at the time :-) The lights flash as usual but no click or sound from the hatch. I am thinking a switch or relay. Anyone else have this problem?

The good news is that the NBC is still under factory warranty (whew)! At least until November!!! :happy096:

Glenn:

I just checked on mine. If you open the center pull-down panel on the rear seat and unlatch the trunk-side black plastic door panel (latch on top) you can access the trunk area from the interior of the car.

If there is not too much stuff in the trunk (mine was full of stuff so I had to move some of it to the side) the interior side of the door should fall open (inward). I used a broom handle (I could not reach with my arm) to move the glow-in-the-dark lever inside the trunk door .... so kids don't lock themselves in (they'd have to be pretty small kids to fit in this trunk).

Anyway, it is possible to reach through to the lever and open the trunk this way. If you are a real Houdini (!) you might be able to reach the lever with your arm. Even if you can't get the trunk open, you might be able to retireive small items from the trunk through the pass thorugh area. You might find that something in the trunk got closed in the latch and jammed it

First year 'verts had a place for the key to open the trunk directly when a part of the rear VW emblem was moved to the side. Just like they changed that option in the sedans after a few years, they also omitted it from the convertible models in 2004 (I think).

Thanks Luke. I did find that out by trial and error. Fortunately the hatch would not open AFTER she got the groceries, so I didn't have to get them out of the trunk! The vert is going in Monday so will keep ya all posted.
