Not much to say. I have been on the email list for the past few years, and feel I know a bunch of you. Went to Roswell a few years back. I think that it was 2003, or maybe the year before. The car is a white 1998 TDI with a large dog kennel in the back seat. The dog likes to take rides, but the dog fur and the insides of the car just don't match. So, it gets to ride along inside the dog kennel.
The location is in the northern end of the central Cali coast. Because of the cool temps and fog, the A/C has not been used for the past few years. Wonder if it still works.
The car is mostly stock except for a few things like the suspension, injectors, chip, MAF, and wheels.

Found the pix. Now to see if I can get it posted.
This was taken at White Sands on the way home from Roswell. We met someone in a yellow bug that had also been at Roswell.
Hummmm. I guess I need to put it up on a server somewhere. Or, maybe I just do not understand how to upload an image.

I, too, had trouble with my pics, I used imageshack as my host & then I didn't have any problems. Hope it will work for you too.
I also take my four legged family member with me on carabugs...mine is a Shih Tzu, she is just twelve pounds, but loves to go for rides. I usually keep her in her car seat, but as of late, I have been letting her enjoy the full comforts of the rear seat, but she will get inside of her carseat still. I think its because that is how I taught her since she was just a wee one.
So what kind of four legged family member do you have...I must say, by your wording about the dog kennel, it sounds large ;)
At any rate, hope to see you at an event soon, in the meantime, keep on carabuggin'.

Let's see if this works.

This was taken at White Sands in the picnic area.

This is Shimmer, the four footed critter. Matches the outside, but not the inside of the car.
Larry:
Great picture of your bug and nice bug (.... and doggie). Some years ago we took a handful of NBs to White Sands, created a NB icon with them and took photos; interesting place.
It's great to see a stock '98. I think that the production run was only 30,000 cars that year ... and they are different from later models, as you already know.
During '99 and years beyond the production run was often 2 to 3 times that number. Unfortunately, I think that the last few years have only sold about 30K again (plus or minus). Interestingly, VW had only projected to sell 30K when they were first built.
Some say the present design is out-dated now. Look under the "Future" section for what the 2010 NB might look like according to some.
Also, check out one of the "Random Rants" section concerning stock 1998 New Beetles.
I've always wanted to add a '98 to my collection since I have a first year NB 'vert.

In 98 they made only a few of the TDI.
Yes, it is a bit different. Things just are not always where they are supposed to be.
