How about a winery tour? There are a lot of good wineries along the central California coast. All will let you sample their wares, and most will give you a tour. A nice way to spend a weekend.

I guess that could work if we all drink in moderation. Nothing worse than a car club doing a drinking event IF we are all driving. I know Sue would be into this for sure!
Anyone else?

Well, maybe someone would have to impose a limit on the group. Say, no more than six tasting rooms in one day.
I wouldn't worry too much. By the time the group went on a tour of the winery, any alcohol would have warn off.

OK, sounds like a plan!

Then the main question is when and where. There are a gazillion wineries around the state. How far are people willing to drive? A one day or two day trip? Visit a large name brand, or smaller boutique winery?
A member of Newbeetle.org is a wine maker up in Carmel Valley. He has said that he can host a gtg outside of the crush season. That is far enough that an overnight trip would be best. For a location closer to home, the Cambria winery near Santa Maria is a nice stop.
Maybe combine a trip to a winery near Paso Robles, and a tour of Hearst Castle?
When? Weekends are always best.

I guess we ought to put a poll together. We have members from as far south as San Diego, and as North as Solvang. So I am guessing that the San Diego people would be the ones we need to "lure" into the idea.

OK, now how do we get this <censored> poll to work? Are you the one with the privilege to set it up?

There is a very large winery in Temecula that had sponsored events in the past and the owner is a club member. Also there is a long time member that has a family owned winery there too....That makes 2 members 2 winerys there hmmm?

That's right, Dean. Shame on me for forgetting Beth and Lee. Maybe we should see if they want to get involved????

All we need is some questions to post. Feel free to list them here. Polls can be created by anyone here.

The questions that come to mind are:
1) would you like to go to a winery for an event?
yes/no
2) what area would you like to visit?
southern area (San Diego, Riverside, Orange, LA counties)
central (Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Montery counties)
northern (the real wine country)
3) willing to travel over night?
yes/no

Well, we're late to the game - sorry - but the club, collectively and as individuals, would always be welcome at Wiens Family Cellars.
That said, we love wine and Socal Beetles - any venue with both is a winner. Cueball lives next to some awesome ones, and we would not mind hanging around a night to fully enjoy.
Perhaps a quarterly wine tour would be a good idea...
