Ugh. Now it seems I'm one of the unlucky many who have automatic transmission problems.
Diagnostic Problem Code 1045 Tiptronic Shift Switch F189
My mechanic tried a VW fix TSB 37 07 07 2013850 to replace the magnet in the shift switch but that didn't work.
Now he's special ordering a $300 switch F189.
I hope that works because I've been reading horror stories about people with 2003, 2004, and 2005 NBs that need $6,500 transmission replacements. I can barely afford the $300 switch let alone $6500.
Anyone else have this problem? The hard downshifting is after about 15 minutes of driving, especially coming down the 101 hill by Universal City. I'm in 5th and try to coast or break into 4th and there's a major jerk and then another when it goes into 3rd.
My 2005 is an auto transmission 6 speed with 57,000 miles.
