Hi Mike,
Arrived in Gahanna yesterday around 6 their time - 2,490 miles. It rained on me last night getting into Saint Louis and into the night. Yesterday morning it rained hard getting out of Saint Louis. Soon cleared off and was a coolish day with a little wind - good traveling weather.
The highway (US 44) getting up to Columbus through Indianapolis is very pretty this time of year. Cement strip over hill and dale lined on both sides by nice trees, some with purple blooms, and green grass everywhere (that is what lots of rain and snow will do for you). Neat old farms along the sides of road. Only bummer is the occasional stetches where the weather has caused the expansion joints in the road to open and then you go bump-bump, bump, bump.
Stopped in Effingham to see Mid America Motorwoks where the FunFest is held. They have a nice museum with lots of Corvettes and a couple of Herbie VWs. They used to sell new beetle parts, but now only Corvette and air cooled VW stuff. When I pulled in the wife of the owner saw my car and recognized it from Hot VW magazine. I got the great treatment and met with the owner. He said they were going to start selling new beetle stuff again, probably next year, starting with interior stuff - carpet and seat covers and then see what else would sell. They said that they would love for the new beetles to come and show there either at the FunFest or they would host our own show. I felt pretty special.
Today is Jerry's birthday so will have a celebration tonight when he gets off work. He is going to race slot cars on Thursday and I am looking forward to watching that. We leave for TOD on Friday morning. Two more cars are coming to Jerry's then the 5 of us go to Cinncinnatti and meet up with 2 more (Lisa Herr) and then go down to Bryson City for the pizza party on Friday night.
Going to clean cars today and get new wipers for Cueball - my 12 year old ones are just too stiff with age.
