Emergency flashers come on when opening car doors

Yesterday when I opened either the driver side or passenger door, my emergency flasher came on about 10 seconds, then cut off. Happened consistently all day. Today (so far) has not happened. I have a VW Beetle 2000 coupe. Any ideas about this? Do I need to do anything or what could have caused this?

Are you using the same key to start the car? There is a security feature on the Beetle called an Immobilizer that checks to see that you have an "authorized" key in the ignition, and if not...the car will not start. It also flashes the 4 way hazards...perhaps your issue is something to do with that?
