SoCal Carabug Info -
02-09-2009, 09:09 PM
Since we have a proper place for the SoCal group to post now I will place a second copy here - there is another similar email in the main Roswell thread. The information following is for the 2nd night of the SoCal groups runto Roswell. See Sue's email below.
- Luke
hi all --
hope all is well with you all and your NBs. after waiting (to no avail) for the manager of Motel 6 to call me back, i finally returned to the scene personally and spoke to someone in person (again). the desk clerk with whom i spoke contacted the new manager, and she guaranteed a room rate, single or double, of $35.99 (+ tax, bringing the total to $40.58). i have a "courtesy hold" on 20 rooms, under my name ("Sue Isley," which needs to be mentioned when making reservations; you might also mention "New Beetles Roswell"), for Wednesday, 24 June. everyone needs to make their own reservations, and all may do so to guarantee their room reservations. the address and phone number are as follows: 6015 Iliff Road, ABQ, NM 87121; phone 505.831.3400. the motel has easy access both on and off I-40, and there are several conveniently located places to eat nearby, including a McDonald's and a Furr's Cafeteria.
as i mentioned before, there are a number of other motels in the same area, for those who do not wish to stay at Motel 6. i checked the rates only at one other motel, a Super 8, and found their rates to be somewhat higher at $46.88 single, and $52.88 double). below are listed the addresses and phone number of some of the other motels in that same area:
Super 8 Motel: 6030 Iliff Road; phone 505.836.5560
Days Inn: 6031 Iliff Road; phone 505.836.3297
La Quinta Inn: 6101 Iliff Road; phone 505.839.1744
Quality Inn & Suites: 6100 Iliff Road; phone 505.836.8600
Hampton Inn: 6150 Iliff Road; phone 505.833.3700
hope this is helpful. sorry it took so long to get this information together.

To/From Roswell Info -
05-25-2009, 10:23 AM
To Roswell Drivers: Southern California Carabug Group:
Here's the basic plan so you can all get your rooms coming and going to Roswell reserved. I hope you have already gotten your Roswell rooms for Thursday night June 25 through Saturday night June 27.
Drive out (2 nights):
1. Tuesday night June 23: Flagstaff, AZ @ Motel 6 West - 2745 S. Woodlands Village, Flagstaff, AZ - phone: (928) 779-3757 - $45 online
2. Wednesday night June 24: Albuquerque, NM @ Motel 6 (near Coors Rd) - 6015 Iliff Rd, Albuquerque, NM - phone: (505) 831-3400 - $36 if you mention 'New Beetles Return to Roswell' or Sue Isley when you call
Recall there is a BBQ this night at Sue and Aaron's place and we will meet up with other caravans the next morning to make the final drive to Roswell on Thursday.
Drive back (1 night):
1. Sunday night June 28: Globe, AZ @ Motel 6 - 1699 E. Ash St, Globe, AZ - phone: (928) 425-5741 - $42 online
We will drive via US 60 through Pie Town and indian reservation land on our way to Globe.
2. Monday night June 29 - we all return to our own homes a little tired and VERY, VERY HAPPY to have attended the "New Beetles Return to Roswell" carabugs and weekend adventure! Now you have New Beetle friends from all over the country!!

Nancy:
There is no registration for the event and the only official fee will be the $$ for the dinner party Saturday night. However, we'll ask for drivers to let us know who is going in the next few weeks just to get an idea of the number of cars/people from Southern California. We'll also need a number for the BBQ in Albuquerque.
If you think you'd like to go, you will need to move quickly on getting motel rooms for the drive out and back as well as rooms for the various nights in Roswell. We have selected some Motel 6 locations for the drive out and back. Your room location in Roswell is up to you. Most of us will be at the Sally Port Best Western. You'll also need the $$$ to cover your gas and food for the trip, of course. The entire trip usually runs me about $800 (rooms: $400-500, gas: $200/bug, food: $120/person). Others may have different numbers and sharing rooms would really cut the room costs.
As you can see each driver is responsible for their own rooms, food and gas. We drive together and meet together during the event. You'll need an FRS radio to communicate with the other Beetle. These can be found at most electronics stores for about 20+ bucks.
You will find much of the information on the thread about "New Beetles Return to Roswell". Let us know if you have other questions.
I still need to select an actual hour of our gathering in Barstow. Right now we do know it will be mid-morning and the location will be the McDonalds restaurant at the Barstow Station location along the freeway. I'll get the details posted soon.
This is a great group of people and a fun drive.

Beth and Lee:
That's great you will both be attending AND bringing both bugs.
On the Barstow meeting time: I think 10 am will work OK. We will plan to leave at 11 am. This will give people time to fuel up and grab a late breakfast, snack or even an early lunch.
The drive to Flagstaff is 5 hours straight through. If we plan on arriving about 6 or 7 pm that should give us 2 or three hours for side trips, and/or stops of interest. I'll accept ideas for stops especially if they were part of a previous Roswell run. That way we can get a little nostalgia thing going.

Barstow Meet Spot Address -
06-01-2009, 09:33 PM
Yes, I have a long drive just to get there also. It will take me abaout 3 1/2 hours of driving time. The meet time is 10 am. and departure time is 11 am. I think we will all need to fuel up bugs and people after our multi-hour trips to get there. We'll all have to do the best we can with traffic from our various locations to Barstow.
I'll give my phone number out via private messages to the SoCal group so we can stay in touch. We should all have a fairly relaxing carabug afterwards.
I'll post a preliminary list of who I understand is going soon. We can add/modify the list over the next couple of weeks.
The meeting address is: 1611 East Main St, Barstow, CA 92311
Take I-15 to the Main St exit in Barstow and the meet spot is just off to your right and across the street from the top of the exit ramp you'll see the McDonalds restaurant.
Here the website: http://www.barstowstation.net/
Is everyone getting ready to roll?

SoCal Itinery: Proposed -
06-20-2009, 08:18 PM
SoCal Roswell-Bound Drivers:
Here is a detailed proposed itinery ( see below) for the cruise out to Albuquerque. Miles and time don't match perfectly on the list, but fit the computer version of times/distances. Check it out an see what you think. I have included a few 'side trips' that would still put us in the general time frame for each days drive.
From Albuquerque to Roswell we will have a larger group and others will led the way.
- Luke
